1. What is mold remediation?
Mold remediation is the process of identifying, containing, removing, and preventing mold growth in residential and commercial properties. This includes addressing the source of moisture that promotes mold growth and ensuring a safe environment.
2. How do I know if I have a mold problem?
Common signs of a mold problem include a musty odor, visible mold growth on walls, ceilings, or other surfaces, water damage or staining, and experiencing allergy-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or eye irritation.
3. Is mold dangerous?
Certain types of mold can cause health issues, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions, allergies, or weakened immune systems. Prolonged exposure can lead to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, skin irritation, and sinus congestion.
4. What causes mold growth?
Mold thrives in damp, humid environments. Common causes include water leaks, poor ventilation, flooding, condensation, and high indoor humidity levels.
5. Can I remove mold myself?
For small areas (less than 10 square feet), DIY removal using proper cleaning solutions and protective gear may be sufficient. However, for larger infestations or mold in HVAC systems, professional remediation is recommended to ensure safe and complete removal. If you do try to remove the mold, the most important thing is to eliminate the source of the mold so that it does not return.
6. How does your mold remediation process work?
Our process includes:
- Inspection and assessment
- Containment to prevent spread
- Air filtration
- Mold removal using specialized treatments
- Cleaning and sanitization
- Moisture control and prevention strategies
7. How long does mold remediation take?
The duration depends on the severity of the mold problem. Minor cases may take a few days, while more extensive infestations can take a week or longer to fully remediate.
8. Will mold come back after remediation?
Mold can return if the source of moisture is not addressed. Our services include moisture control solutions to help prevent future mold growth.
9. What types of products are used to remove mold?
The product used generally depends on multiple factors: type of mold, amount of mold, and the area the mold is located. Our product can change as new and different products are available, as this is an ever-evolving process.
10. Are the products used safe?
Yes, we use EPA-approved, environmentally friendly products that are safe for both humans and pets. We also take precautions to ensure proper ventilation and containment to minimize any exposure risks during the remediation process. We have all of the SDS / MDS sheets available.
11. Do you provide mold testing?
No. Mold testing is very subjective. It is like the old adage about the fox in the hen house. It is best to have a separate company do the mold testing vs the mold remediation.
12. Is mold removal covered by homeowners insurance?
Coverage varies by policy. Mold remediation may be covered if it results from a covered peril, such as water damage from a burst pipe. We recommend checking with your insurance provider.
13. How much does mold remediation cost?
Costs depend on factors such as the size of the affected area, the severity of contamination, and the necessary repairs. We provide a detailed estimate after an initial inspection.
14. How can I prevent mold from returning?
To prevent mold growth:
- Address leaks and moisture issues promptly
- Improve ventilation in high-humidity areas
- Use dehumidifiers to keep the relative humidity between 40 – 45 degrees.
- Regularly clean and inspect areas prone to moisture buildup
15. I rent, and I think there is a mold problem. Can I contract Restore It to remove the mold?
No, it must be the owner of the property that contracts us. They are the only ones authorized to have us work on the property.
16. What if my landlord does not do anything about the mold in my rented place?
At that point, we recommend contacting your local health department. They may be able to help you.
